Artificial Intelligence in Beekeeping Workshop – Ordu 2025

The “Artificial Intelligence in Beekeeping Workshop” was successfully held on October 30–31, 2025, at the Ordu Beekeeping Research Institute Directorate, supported by the Eastern Black Sea Development Agency (DOKA).

The event brought together key stakeholders, including Ordu Governor Mr. Muammer EROLDOKA Secretary General Mr. Kemal AKPINARProvincial Director of Agriculture and Forestry (V.) Mr. Ersin SOYDANTAGEM Coordinator Dr. Belgin GÜNBEY, public institution representatives, academics, researchers, and professionals from the beekeeping and agri-tech sectors. Participants discussed the current trends and future opportunities of digital transformation in beekeeping.

As IntalaLab Research Group, we were honored to contribute to the workshop.
Dr. Şahin AYDIN delivered a presentation titled “Digital Twin–Enabled Smart Hive Systems and AI-Assisted Honey Production”, introducing the research outcomes of our ongoing Bee-OPTECH4Honey and TOP4HoneyChains projects.

The presentation highlighted:

  • LoRa-based sensor networks for remote colony monitoring,
  • AI-driven image processing and data analytics for colony health assessment,
  • NDVI/VARI-based vegetation and flowering prediction models,
  • Cloud-based monitoring dashboards and digital twin integration.

 Workshop Highlights

Throughout the two-day event, sessions focused on:

  • “What is Artificial Intelligence? Applications in Agriculture and Beekeeping,”
  • “Determining Colony Conditions with Sensor Technologies,”
  • “Using AI for Colony Health and Pollination Forecasting.”

The workshop concluded with a certificate ceremony and networking session, emphasizing collaboration between researchers, technology firms, and local beekeepers to shape the future of sustainable and smart apiculture.
